Wind turbine trouble | Implementing infrastructure bills | Is Grand Central Madison a "curse" on MTA?
Global installed wind power generation capacity has increased more than 8x since 2007, to over 840 gigawatts in 2021.
How? One reason is that manufacturers are churning out ever larger turbine blades - some are longer than a football field now - which helps reduce project costs.
But installing these massive turbines hasn't been smooth sailing. There have been some high-profile failures, particularly in Europe, over the last couple of years, leading to hundreds of millions of dollars in warranty claims. (For example, GE announced a $500M charge to cover turbine repairs during its 2022 Q3 earnings.)
