The pace of globalization is slowing down as countries tighten up their supply chains in favor of their geopolitical allies.

This "slobalization" and "friendshoring" is happening at a moment when populist tensions are increasing everywhere in the aftermath of COVID, never-ending financial crises, and the impacts of climate change. As free trade is waning, costs are rising, particularly across sectors to which infrastructure is exposed (i.e. commodities, labor, and energy). One recent study pegged the cost of friendshoring at 4.6% of global GDP. What will this all mean for the future of our industry?
